THANK YOU PAPER MAGAZINE!

ok, sarah started to touch on the weirdness of last night in her latest post. now i guess its my turn. last night was just that. fuckin weird. and SO exemplary of new york nightlife.

only in new york could the major winners of an awards ceremony feel completely anonymous. actually, i dont want to put it that way. i think what was most evident last night was the different turn that new york nightlife has taken in recent years. the room was filled with two very different kinds of people. there were the "old school" nightlifers, like the heatherette crew, amy sacco, michael musto, don hill, amanda lepore, etc etc. then there were the new schoolers, like us, like the misshapes kids, like the motherfucker crew (who i guess could belong in either category). the key difference seems to be friendship. our little group (consisting of the stolen transmission crew, the misshapes, thomas, junior sanchez, josh m, sandra, scott, jenny, rob hitt, etc etc) were the loudest in the room. every time a friend was nominated, we cheered. every time one of us won an award, we thanked the rest of the pack. you didnt get that with the old schoolers. they were there to champion themselves. talk about how cool and exclusive and groundbreaking they are/were. fuck that. who wants to go a club where youre made to feel inferior and unwanted? sarah and i couldnt get over how unwanted we felt last night. by the time we were called on to accept the third award of the night, you could sense the people in that room scratching their nuts and going, "who the fuck are these bitches?" all i can hope is that our sweep is a sign of change for the better. what we love about stolen transmission as a party is that its completely unpretentious and that its a place for people to come and dance and not give a fuck about what they look like while doing it. so were not glamorous. were award winning!

heres a little rundown of last night:

thats us accepting the first award of the night, for best new promoters. i think im losing my poo because sarah couldnt see over the podium. or maybe it was because we thanked james van der beek and i think people bought it.

thats us proudly showing off our first two awards. note the looks of confusion. and the idlewild tshirt.

thats the screen announcing stolen transmission at orchard bar as the peoples choice award for best party. thanks guys!

so thats that. we won stuff. and in typical tarts fashion we were slow to hit up the winners area and our gift baskets got stolen! perfect! we got champagne instead. they know their customers.
