ITS SO COLD IN THIS HOUSE

saturday night was hectic as expected. saints+lovers slayed me at mercury. i was in a mood when i got there. a harried, stoned mood. i was worried that it would detract from the S+L experience. no way. didnt happen. the room was pretty full for them (some band called the dears was headlining. wink.) but the crowd seemed stricken with the typical scenester bug of silence. not gonna lie, i was guilty of it myself that night. but nevertheless, they fuckin amazed me. again. it was literally a case of being mesmerized by the band onstage, only to be distracted by unnecessary breaks between songs. it was like, fuck your polite clapping people, lets get back to the MUSIC! so this is three times now. three times that ive seen this band with hesitant expectation, and three times that theyve completely fucking floored me. go them.

as soon as they were through, i rushed down to tribeca to meet antony et al for the kaiser chiefs show. ive gotta say, as much as i hate paying 10+ bucks for a drink (hence the thai flask in my bag), tribeca is a guaranteed party place to see a show. great bands, good looking people, great DJs, beautiful atmosphere. the room was crowded and sweaty and i couldnt even see the stage, but the band was fun and good times were had.

ah... speaking of the heroes, theyve just been added as support for the braverys tour of the UK. sucks to be the bravery. it really must sting having people coming away from shows raving about the opener. we all know people are gonna flock to those shows. nows the heroes chance to show their chops. go them times two. for those of you in NYC, you can check them out before they leave us for the UK jaunt at SHINDIG! on wednesday night (19th). SHINDIG! is this new artsy fartsy party thrown by the appealing periodicals (thanks andrea and dana) in a loft space on 6th btw B and C. its $10 to get in, open bar all night, a bunch of bands... music starts around 8 or 9 with the heroes and continues til the last teenager ralphs.

hmmm, what else? army of me are playing at southpaw on thursday. they just kicked some serious jersey ass at the starland ballroom tsunami relief gig on sunday, and will be ENORMOUS in a year or twos time... so may as well go see them now for gloatings sake, right? it will be a year to the day that i braved the freezing cold to see an up-and-coming band play northsix. it was another case of the "go see this band, theyre gonna be huge, might as well catch em small." you know who it was? some band called franz ferdinand. i dunno. i think theyre pretty big now. army of me are nothing like franz ferdinand, but girls will love them nonetheless. and we all know girls like things like cars and money, and those are good things, right?
