MORE OR LESS
went to rothko. saw the shore. i loved it. sarah was in purgatory.
now, get ready for a bombshell people... the shore may be too pretty for their own good. i LOVED their sound. maybe its the summer air, maybe its because i havent been listening to the verve or doves lately, but something about the tone of the singers voice and the smoothness of the melodies made me fall for this band instantly. and ok, yes, the singer is fucking beautiful. like, mesmerizingly so.
i think theyre pretty aware of their pinup capabilities; the singer joked at one point, "we're gonna be on tv on friday... on the carson daly show." *hesitant applause from audience* "soon enough it'll be teen vogue."
dont fuck with teen vogue, killer. i love that shit.
now i think the problem here is that the shore are going to end up suffering from what i call the "phantom planet syndrome," or PPS. deny it all you want, but phantom planet happen to be a pretty good band. they write some good songs and put on a kickass live show. so, why then, are they not more successful? in my not-so-humble opinion, i think it has a great deal to do with the bandmembers themselves. i think the snobby end of music fandom never gave PP a chance because their old drummer was a movie star and the singer... well, i guess hes kind of a movie star too. theres just something lacking in the believeability department when a band looks too polished and pretty. like, did you notice how people were more willing to accept PP's third album because by the time it came out they had shed the famous drummer and scruffed up their looks a bit? just a thought.
so anyway, i really liked this band. they made me forget the rain. they made me feel good. im curious to see what they become... and what other people think.
